All one has to do to appreciate where John's art comes from is to look at his beginnings. John was raised in a small Iowa town just a few yards from a river where he first learned to appreciate the wonders of the natural world. Those influences from his childhood undoubtedly still impact his work today.
From an early age John had the feeling that art would forever be a part of who he was. Throughout high school and college he practiced and grew within his art.
After receiving his master's degree from the University of Northern Iowa, John moved to the mountains of Colorado to begin the next phase of his life. He began his professional development, producing art ranging from intimate portraiture to dramatic and inviting landscapes, to wildlife imagery, all themes that he still pursues today.
After living in Colorado for several years, John and his wife, Laurie, and son, Charlie, found themselves drawn back to the Midwest, settling in Wisconsin, where John maintains a studio. His works can be found in many private and corporate collections throughout the United States.
